The Vineyard

Welcome to Quinta da Casa José Pedro in Valpaços, a 75-hectare property located in the parish of Rio Torto, adjacent to National Road 213.

We are one of the largest properties in the Trás-os-Montes wine region and we are situated in the Terra Quente transmontana, on the bank of the Rabaçal river, which enhances our natural beauty and provides high tourist potential.
Here, the schist terroir has a significant influence on the production of our wines. The presence of schist helps retain moisture and maintain the soil temperature, creating an ideal environment for vine growth. The schist soil is rich in minerals, which contributes to the flavor and aroma of our wines.
Our wines are recognized for their high quality, with an intense and complex flavor, often featuring notes of dark fruits, spices, and smooth tannins. These characteristics are influenced by the soil composition, as well as the climate and other environmental factors of the region. Additionally, the culture and winemaking tradition of the region also play an important role in producing quality wines.

Speaking of climate, the Valpaços sub-region has a continental Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot and dry summers and cold and humid winters. These climatic conditions have a significant influence on the wine production of our estate. During the hot and dry summers, the vines are able to fully ripen the grapes, resulting in wines with high sugar content and a greater concentration of flavors. On the other hand, the harsh winters help maintain the natural acidity in the grapes, which is important for the flavor balance in the wines.
